How We Started
Chavamade originated from a passion of creating and a silly nickname. Since I have a Hawaiian name pronounced Kooheva, friends nicknamed me Eve and soon after I met my husband Adam. For as long as I can remember I have always loved crafting, creating and decorating. But it wasn’t until my son came along and I needed to feel like myself again due to some post-partum recovery that I decided to try my hand at watercolor. I needed some artwork for some spaces in our home so I gave it a whirl and a few attempts later, I was smitten! Family and friends began requesting pieces so I tried out at a few fairs and festivals and it just grew from there. My love for painting, creating and decorating married with our names, Adam and Eve, finally brought forth Chavamade!
A year later and the shop has grown in ways I didn’t imagine! Now we are a team of ladies who love working together! We share a love for the same decorating style but an even greater love and passion for the Lord and a desire to minister to other women! Read more about each of these amazing ladies below!
Significance Behind “Chavamade”
Chava (or Chavah), the Hebrew name for Eve, means the “mother of all life” but it doesn’t stop at just birthing a human. Sara Crispe writes beautifully on “Chavah” in her blog The Jewish Woman: “Chavah embodies both the essence of life itself and the creative ability to grant that life to others. The idea of ‘mother of all life’ expresses not only the ability to physically give birth, but also to create, nourish, and enhance all facets of life. This is the ability of a mother–to take something from the state of potential, develop it, and bring it to actualization through her creative abilities.”
Chava means to bring life and beauty into the world with joy even if the process is painful. It means to experience life, to celebrate life, to share and to give that life to others, and to nurture life. And that is our goal through this shop!
To celebrate and enhance life through art.
We strive to bring life and beauty through every personalized Chavamade piece. We want every piece to not just come to life on paper or fabric, but also to celebrate the little lives that you are bringing forth in your own lives! The relationships and connections we seek to build through the creations of these pieces we hope further spark life and express the love that we pour into each artwork. And ultimately, we pray that our art will glorify the Lord and encourage and maybe even nurture those touched by it. As a ministry extension of our shop, it is also our deepest desire to minister to new moms who either have little support as single moms or are struggling with prolonged hospital stays due to complications or premature babies. Although this dream is not a reality yet, we are working hard through Chavamade to make that dream a reality in the near future with BIG plans already in the works!
MEET THE TEAM!
Abby: Website & Twitter Manager, Designer, Writer
Hello! I’m Abby, a little southern mama from a small town in South Carolina. I am a wife of a chemist, who thinks he knows it all (most of the time he does). He is my high school sweetheart, a strong and Godly man, and I couldn’t do life without him. We have a beautiful son together, who will be three soon and another little boy on the way! Our oldest is an absolute joy, and I am so proud to be his mom. I am so thankful to the Lord for allowing me to become a mother and very blessed to be able to stay at home with my boys. Singing is my talent. I have a love and appreciation for many genres of music, thanks to my dad. My other loves have to do with encouraging others, writing, anything to do with farmhouse décor, and a good plate of spaghetti. My dream is to move back to the country roads I grew up on and continue to build our family. I met Kuhiwa in a local Mother’s of Preschoolers group and we began building a friendship that I am so thankful for. Through her, I was able to meet Alyssa and Ashlee. I am overjoyed to be working with this wonderful group of ladies and to be a part of the Chavamade team!
Alyssa: Photographer, Designer & Facebook Manager
Ashlee: Artist and Designer
Hey y’all! I’m Ashlee, that’s right, with two e’s! I am a full time registered nurse on a neuro intensive care unit, wife, and mom to my two fur babies, Nugget (my mostly white calico kitty) and Meeko (my beautiful “mutt”). I was born and raised in a small town in South Carolina in the country and love my southern roots! I celebrated two years of marriage in 2017 with my high school sweetheart, Kolea, who just so happens to be Kuhiwa’s younger brother. He works at Michelin Prime Tire Company and does woodworking and photography on the side. As of now, we just have our fur babies, but have a new little one on the way!! For now, we are enjoying time for us. We absolutely love to travel whenever our schedule permits! We recently spent some time in New Zealand, which is hands down the most beautiful place we’ve ever been! When I’m not planning our next traveling adventure, I love to paint. I grew up in gifted arts classes all throughout school and really picked up painting, watercolor being my favorite, in high school. Nursing school did not permit many electives so I have since continued it as a hobby. I have always loved art and painting and when Kuhiwa invited me to join Chavamade, it was a dream come true! Not only have I been given the opportunity to do something I love, I’m also using my talents to spread God’s love and I’m doing it alongside some amazing women! My heart is overjoyed to be a part of Chavamade creating artwork for all of you!
Kuhiwa: Founder/Creator, Artist, Designer, and Instagram Manager
Aloha! I’m Kuhiwa…or Eve…or Kiwi…or Kawini…or Red…or Anne (since I love Anne of Green Gables and have red hair 😉 ) basically anything that is remotely close! Yes, I’m half Hawaiian and thus my different name. But I love it because it is an awesome conversation starter between my ghost white skin and red hair and Hawaiian blood…yeah…what? But I won’t go into that story here. I am a stay at home mom and minister that lives in Georgia now and am married to a Navy Chaplain who is also a minister and a Social Studies middle school teacher. We have a little boy who will be turning three this summer and another little bundle of joy due in the next month! Crazy how time flies! We also have a handful of dogs, cats, and bunnies with the dreams of having a couple goats for dairy and having ducks again in a few years or so. I have a TON of interests but most of all I love creating!!!! Anything and everything! Décor, parties…you name it! If I’m not creating, then I feel like I am losing my sanity. When our son came along my creating took a hiatus which drove me beyond my capacity so as soon as I could I decided to try my hand at watercolors and thus this shop was born shortly after. So now I work with these amazing ladies and spend time with my family creating for all of you!
